My story

Hello, I'm Kenieshiear

Master encourager, professional optimist and a woman who learned that "normal" is optional.

I grew up learning to stand in line, follow the rules and please my teachers. I was good at it. Then, somewhere between a self-built languages degree, a leap to Berlin in 2004 and the corporate career that came after, God started waking me up.

“Can I just opt out?”

One day on a coaching call I asked a simple question: can I just opt out? Opt out of the expected path, the busy calendar, the version of success everyone else had written for me? That question became the Opting Out podcast, and it became the way my family lives.

My husband and I opted out of cable in 2009. I opted out of corporate life and prayed to stay home with the children we didn’t have yet. We decided to homeschool before our first child was born. In 2019 we sold our house of eleven years and went mobile, and today we travel full time with our five children (and more instruments and waffle makers than any family should own).

What I care about

My heart has always been with widows, children and anyone who feels alone or deserted. My husband and I started Warriors Quiver, a nonprofit born out of that heart. I’ve served with my local Junior League and MOPS, designed wedding flowers, managed a musician and built businesses, and every one of those seasons taught me the same thing: we were all built to serve, and the gift is waiting on the other side of the uncomfortable.

What I share

On the podcast I share solo episodes about faith, family, health and purpose, plus two series: The Extraordinary Zone, interviews with people living extraordinary stories, and The Adventure Startup, conversations with founders about their first bold steps. I also write about our family’s travels at Suitcase People, and I speak to churches, women’s groups and conferences.

A note about my children

You’ll hear plenty about my children, but you won’t see their faces or learn their names here. Their stories are theirs to tell someday.
